SHOWCASE // I am From There, I am From Here

I Am From There, I Am From Here: A Palestinian Showcase will kick off the seventh DCPFAF on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage with storytelling, musical ensemble, and theater. The cultural production, a contemporary expression of the colorful Palestinian diaspora, celebrates Palestine as a vision for the future as much as an object of commemoration.

Performers will be dressed by Rami Kashou with support from: the American-Palestinian Women's Association (APWA) and Leonard Education Organization (LE.O), which matches underserved Palestinian youth from the Middle East with undergraduate scholarship opportunities at liberal arts colleges in the US. Offering college prep, academic mentoring, soft skills development, internship placements, advocacy, and guidance from high school onwards.

Rami Kashou was born in Jerusalem on May 11, 1976 and arrived in the U.S. in 1996. A seasoned veteran of runway shows, Rami has shown his devotion and passion for groundbreaking, feminine design and has become one of the most coveted runway shows to attend during fashion week, attracting celebrities such as Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba and Christina Aguilera. Rami has dressed celebrities and trendsetters such as Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, Rihanna, Penelope Cruz, Heidi Klum, and Jennifer Lopez.

This year, Kashou partnered with the Qattan Foundation to support and lead a design mentorship program for a group of Palestinian designers in his hometown, Ramallah. Most notably, Kashou was a finalist on Bravo's Project Runway.

Known for his signature sculpting and draping, Rami celebrates women through his romantic interpretation of inspired feminine and architectural design.
