Cherien Dabis, renowned Palestinian-American filmmaker (May in the Summer, Amreeka) screenwriter, director, and television producer (Empire, The L Word, Quantico), is the 2017 Spotlight Artist. On Saturday evening, she will discuss navigating identities in different spaces, creating images of Palestinians, and the world of Hollywood film production.
CHERIEN DABIS is an award winning film and television writer, director, producer and actor who received her M.F.A in Film from Columbia University. She began her career in television when she joined the writing staff of Showtime’s groundbreaking, original hit series THE L WORD in its third season. She wrote three episodes and was promoted from writer (2005-2006) to story editor (2006-2007) and co-producer (2007-2008) before going on to make her feature writing and directorial debut with AMREEKA.
